Summary

This is probably the most familiar and straightforward 12-bar blues progression. It stays on the I7 chord for the first four bars, giving singers and soloists plenty of space to settle into the groove and develop simple melodic ideas before moving to the common IV7 in bars 5 and 6. The sequence then returns to I7 for bars 7 and 8, before following a standard closing motion of V7 in bar 9, IV7 in bar 10, and back to I7 for bars 11 and 12. Overall, the harmony changes at an easy-to-follow pace, making this a accessible form for beginners while still giving more experienced players room to shape phrases clearly around the classic blues movement.
